Cultural diversity at school, ignorance of the game as a socio-cultural element and westernized science teaching have been constant in the educational context. This text shows the partial results of the doctoral work conceptualized from 3 references: diversity and cultural difference, science teaching and play. The objective is to characterize the game as an intercultural artifact and pedagogical mediator in science classes. The methodological approach is qualitative and framed in the interpretive paradigm. Participation Action Research and informational bibliographic mapping are used. The partial results have indicated that the approach to the subject in question is scarce and that the game is mostly conceived as a didactic resource. It is concluded that, being a subject little studied, it becomes a possibility of knowing, recognizing and including local-traditional knowledge in the teaching of science.
