Peer Review Process
The process of evaluating the manuscripts begins after the pre-assessment stage, which consists of checking the following points, carried out by the Editor-in-Chief of the journal:
- Correspondence to the focus and scope of the journal and/or the dossier;
- Document with Author Identification Data;
- Manuscript according to the templates made available by the journal;
- Authorization terms sent (when necessary).
In case of compliance with these points, the text will be accompanied by an executive editor, who will verify that the manuscript has some type of identification of authorship and that the text complies with the Plagiarism and Use of Artificial Intelligence Policies. Once this step is completed, the text is sent to the possible reviewers.
Espirales Journal adopts the double-blind peer review model, so that the opinions are confidential. However, we offer reviewers and authors the option to open their respective identities, in accordance with Open Science guidelines. Exceptionally, preprints will be evaluated in the single-blind peer evaluation modality, in which the authorship has its identity revealed, but the identity of reviewers remains anonymous.
All manuscripts will be submitted for evaluation by at least two reviewers, who must complete the Evaluation Form and record their recommendation. The opinion may result in three possibilities: (a) acceptance without the need for modifications; (b) acceptance subject to compliance with the mandatory corrections indicated; (c) rejection.
It is up to the executive editor to analyze if both opinions are in agreement, otherwise (example: one opinion suggests rejecting and the other accepting), the text is forwarded to a third party reviewer. After the reviewers' recommendation is finalized, the executive editor registers the Editorial Decision. In case of doubts about the decision, the Editor-in-Chief should be consulted.
The evaluation process takes, on average, 5 months.
