This article underscores the significance of teacher education in additional languages through the development of English and Portuguese instructional materials. These resources, crafted by the authors, are intended for use in both Basic and Higher Education settings within the municipalities of Rio de Janeiro and Foz do Iguaçu. The discussion is framed by Freire’s (1987) concepts of the sectarian individual, subjective immobility, and the oppressed who harbors the oppressor. Additionally, it engages with Foucault’s (1970 [1999]) notion of the will to truth and structures of long duration, as well as Munanga’s (2008) critique of the myth of racial democracy and Baeninger’s (2012) examination of the fallacy of Brazil as a welcoming nation. This study presents additional language instructional materials as a means of fostering critically reflective language educators.
